ABSEILING...
For the ultimate adrenaline rush and personal challenge, place your trust in yourself others and go out over the edge of a rock face with a drop of 50m below you. Don't worry, you are in the expert hands of the Discover@Kepplewray instructors who will make sure that you have all the necessary equipment and training.

Abseiling is ideal for:

-
Boosting confidence and pushing personal boundaries.
-
Encouraging young people to listen carefully as they follow both simple and more complex instructions.
-
Group members to support and encourage each other.

ARCHERY...
Unleash your inner Robin Hood and discover the ancient art of Archery – the traditional method of hunting and survival. Whilst the targets at Discover@Kepplewray do not move, there is nevertheless a great sense of achievement when you hit one, especially that gold circle in the middle!

The key benefits archery offers are:

-
Improving attention skills
-
Teaching patience - a particular benefit for the younger age group
-
Emphasising that individuals need to be responsible for their own actions
Archery is open to all, and can be undertaken by both able-bodied and disabled people - age is no barrier!

BUSHCRAFT...
Get close to nature

Your group will have great fun gaining core skills, well away from technology. They'll learn how to create a fire from an ember to a flame, with just a few basic elements and friction.

Get familiar with bush craft tools such as a knife, axe and saw and build your own shelter in the wild, suitable for an overnight stay whether wet or dry!
CRATE STACKING...
This is a fantastically fun team activity. Up to four people at a time get into harnesses and stand on an old milk crate each. Then with the help of others in their team, the building of a big wobbly tower commences with climbers on top.

The challenge is to get as high as possible before falling off or knocking the tower over. Everyone is involved to achieve an end goal - perfect!

ENVIRONMENTAL SESSIONS...
Discovering the magnificent surroundings of the Lake District is something which most visitors take for granted. Whether wishing to complete the John Muir Award or to simply gain a better understanding of our natural environment, Discover@Kepplewray can help you discover the hidden delights of things normally passed by.

With experienced instructors delivering sessions ranging from exploring local pond life and mini beasties in our grounds, to being out on the hills searching for the source of the river and following its impact on the landscape as it makes its way to the sea.

The environmental sessions may be an hour or two in the Discover@Kepplewray locality or a full day’s activity travelling much further afield.
MOUNTAIN WALKING...
The Lake District is renowned for its many and varied walks and there is a walk to suit everyone. The spectacular views and the sense of achievement cannot be diminished whatever the group's ability.
Discover@Kepplewray provides boots, waterproofs and rucksacks so the walkers are happy whatever the weather. Many low-level walking routes are suitable for wheelchairs and buggies; but wherever you walk, the magnificent views, the rocky mountains and the luscious green fells of South Lakeland provide an emotional experience that you will never forget.

ROCK CLIMBING...
Rock climbing is much more than just about going up a cliff face. Trust is a key factor - not only in yourself and your equipment but also, more importantly, in the person holding the rope.

Rock climbing in the Coniston, Duddon and the Eskdale valleys provide fantastic real rock faces to challenge yourself on in wonderful locations.

TEAM BUILDING...
We can achieve a huge number of things as individuals - but there are many things that cannot be done without the help of some friends. Our instructors set the challenges but it is down to the team to figure out how to achieve the task and then to organise themselves accordingly. There are no prizes for being "first" if it means the rest of your team gets left behind.

For example, can you get a group of people across a rocky, crocodile-infested river (use your imagination here!) using only three planks?

The Team Challenges take place in the large garden at Kepplewray and ensure that success can be achieved only by the whole group thinking and working together.

WILD CAMPING...
With the whole of the Lake District to go at, we can take you to some incredible locations. No mirrors, no bathrooms, no electricity, no hot water, no mobile signal, no cars, no noise, no hassles – just you and your friends, in the middle of nowhere, around the campfire, telling stories, cracking jokes and admiring the stars. We can either walk-in or canoe, the important thing is getting away from it all and taking time for yourself to just be.

Come wild camping to:

-
Experience an amazing sense of freedom
-
Take a bit of time out of busy lives to relax completely
-
Encourage self-reliance and personal responsibility
